About Mark Gladwin
Mark's playwork career began in 1981 at York Playspace, where for
15 years he organised playschemes and after school clubs, developed
a resource centre, and was part of the pre-history of playwork training.
During this time, the Woodcraft Folk was a key part of his professional
development.
In 1996 he moved to the Children's Society in Leeds, where he
worked on playwork volunteer training and the development of play-centred
quality assurance for out of school clubs.
Since 2002 he has been part of the Play team at Bradford Early
Years & Childcare Service, where he co-researched and wrote (as
part of a jobshare) the Bradford District play strategy, "All To
Play For".
Mark is a former co-chair of the Joint National Committee on Training
for Playwork. He holds a Level 4 qualification in Playwork, and
works part time as an Assessor, Internal Verifier and External Verifier
in Playwork. He is a founder Director and Chair of York & North
Yorkshire Playwork Assessment Centre and a founder Director of Yorkshire
Play. Mark has recently been awarded a Masters degree from Leeds
Metropolitan University for a research study of children's attitudes
to risk in play.
