About Alyson Christy
Alyson Christy is National Development Manager for the Kids Playwork
Inclusion Project run by Kids’ National Development Division.
Alyson started working with Kids as a Kidsactive Associate Trainer.
She then worked as Regional Development Officer for Yorkshire and
The Humber, on secondment from her post as Play Policy Development
worker with City of York Council where she facilitated the writing
of 'Taking Play Forward' - a play policy framework for York.
Alyson’s first experiences of playwork were within a children's
home in Sierra Leone many, many years ago! She has worked to enable
the inclusion of disabled children and young people in many play
environments from out-of-school clubs to Adventure Playgrounds.
An active player and Sharing Carer, she continues to run an inclusive
open access Saturday Club.
Alyson represented the Y&H Regional Centre for Playwork Education
and Training, now Yorkshire Play, on SkillsActive's National Council.
She is an Executive member of JNCTP (Joint National Committee for
Training in Playwork) and a playworker trainer, NVQ assessor/verifier
with Playscape Training Ltd.
Organisational information
Kids is acknowledged as a leading national agency in England for
inclusive play and leisure. Working across five English Regions,
the charity was established in 1970, and also provides a wide range
of services for disabled children, young people and their families,
including specialist and inclusive play and leisure provision.
Kids National Development Division, (previously part of Kidsactive
prior to merging with Kids in 2003), offers training, publications,
advice and guidance on inclusive play on a national basis. It also
runs: the Playwork Inclusion Project (PIP), which aims to increase
the numbers of disabled children in mainstream play and childcare
provision through regional support networks, seminars, workshops
and advice; the Young People’s Inclusion Network, which is working
with disabled young people around England to set up youth groups,
which will assess favourite leisure activities, establish a national
on-line network and advise on inclusive leisure opportunities; as
