About Kevin Brookes

Kevin Brookes qualified as a Social Worker in 1984. Until 1992
he worked for a number of local authorities in the child protection
arena, gaining particular experience in care proceedings and securing
long term and adoptive care for children and young people.
In 1992 Kevin continued his work in a local authority as a Child
Protection Co ordinator, working to improve services to abused children
across all agencies. Within this post Kevin was also instrumental
around involving parents and significant adults within the child
protection registration system in order to improve outcomes for
children.
From 1994 Kevin held a number of Team Manager posts within a local
authority managing child protection services that included significant
responsibility for care proceedings. In 2002 Kevin worked on a part
time basis as a Children's Guardian, representing the interests
of children and young people who were subject to care proceedings.
At this time Kevin also undertook self employed work with a number
of local authorities around improving the assessment services for
children and families in need.
In 2006 Kevin moved to the NSPCC as a Policy Adviser responsible
for child protection and safeguarding matters. This includes work
associated with the safe working practices for those involved with
children and young people.
