'The Experimental Playground', Video Presentation by Hattie Coppard

The Experimental Playground

Experimental Playground Project, Daubeney School, Hackney, London

For one week during March 2000, Daubeney playground was transformed into a large scale experimental space, giving all 485 pupils the chance to experiment with the design of their everyday environment and experience how it could be different.

The experimental playground project was used as the basis for designing a permanent transformation of the playground at Daubeney School (shown above). The impact of the transformation at Daubeney will be evaluated in a forthcoming report.

Hattie Coppard is Director of Snug & Outdoor, a company of artists whose work involves designing innovative play spaces which grow out of creative consultation with those who use them.
